Cool nights heat up with lots of fun, entertainment

SANDPOINT – The kids are back in school (whew!) and fall is teasing us with cooler evenings. Cooler still, for all the fun stuff going on in town!

Friday, POAC hosts an art reception and auditions for young dancers in the Nutcracker. That same evening, DiLuna’s presents the Americana-folk band King Cardinal in a special dinner concert.

Saturday brings us the annual Injectors Car Show downtown, plus the annual Inland Northwest Cornhole Championships at MickDuff’s Beer Hall.

Coming up next Tuesday and Wednesday, it’s auditions for the holiday season production of “Hearthside Stories” at the Panida Little Theater and another fine gathering of arts-minded folks on Wednesday at Ivano’s for The Conversation.

Thursday, Sept. 5

‘Ode to Joy’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Charlie has a rare disorder that causes him to lose control of his muscles whenever he is overcome by strong emotions. But when a beautiful woman falls for him, he must decide whether to suppress his feelings, or take a chance and let love in.

Bright Moments Jazz

Venue: Trinity at City Beach, 58 Bridge St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6-9 p.m.

This talented consortium is a local go-to for great jazz – always.

Admission: Free, open to public.

Sip n’ Shop, John Daffron & Back-to-School Party

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301, Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Sip n’ Shop from 4-8 p.m.; live music 5-8 p.m.

The winery hosts a Sip n’ Shop for the Bonner Homeless Transitions, with proceeds going to the organization.  Plus, a special night of music with the talented singer-songwriter, John Daffron! 

Admission: Free and open to the public.

Friday, Sept. 6

POAC First Fridays Art Reception

Venue: POAC Gallery & The Old Power House110 Main St, in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Call of the Wild, at the Old Power House, explores the irresistible urge to go outside, breathe the fresh air – and paint! This en plein air exhibit (artwork created outdoors) features 10 local artists.

Life in Motion, at the POAC Gallery, explores interpretations by 12 local artists in a variety of mediums. Generously sponsored by the Pend d’Oreille Winery.

Admission: Free and open to the public.

POAC ‘Nutcracker’ Dance Auditions

Venue: Allegro dance Studio, 610 N. Fifth Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Baby Mice (ages 5-7): 4-4:30 p.m.; Angels (ages 7-9) 4:30-5 p.m.; Bon Bons (ages 9-11, one year ballet training required) 5-6 p.m.; Party Children (ages 11-15) 6-7 p.m.

Arrive 30 minutes early to register. Appropriate class attire required. Must be available for all rehearsals and performances.

Fee: $10 audition fee, paid at the door.

Mike Oregano

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301, Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Mike Oregano is a one-man band that is unlike any before him.

Miah Kohal Band

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

Don’t miss Sandpoint’s favorite outlaw rock band – and bring your dancing shoes.  Admission: Free for those 21 and over. 

King Cardinal

Venue: DiLuna’s Cafe, 207 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

King Cardinal is an Americana-folk band whose music is just as diverse as their members.

Devon Wade

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Devon is an independent country music artist out of Sandpoint Idaho with a strong love for what country music has always been – songs about real life.

20th Annual Injectors Car Show

Venue: Downtown Sandpoint

Time: Registration from 9-11 a.m., show takes place until 3 p.m. Model Car Show for all ages – no fee – from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Prizes for first, second, and third place cars, plus entertainment, music and trivia as well as raffle and silent auction.

Friends of the Library Used Book Sale

Venue: East Bonner County Library, 1407 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

This sale will feature a wide array of book sets including Roman history, a large collection of cookbooks and more. For parents, check out a wonderful collection of children’s books.

Inland Northwest Cornhole Championships

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St.

Time: 11:30 a.m. for singles in flights; about 3 p.m. for doubles

The 4th annual Inland Northwest Cornhole Championship is about to get it on! This is an ACL Regional Tournament three divisions for both singles and doubles competitions: social, competitive and advanced/pro.
