Police released the names of four of the five officers involved in a Sept. 4 shooting that left a 29-year-old Coeur d’Alene man dead.

One of the officers, Jacob Brazle, a three-year veteran of the Coeur d’Alene department, was also involved in the July 4 shooting of Tyler Rambo at City Park.

Coeur d’Alene Police said all of the department’s officers have been cleared administratively and have returned to work.

Coeur d’Alene Police Capt. Dave Hagar said Brazle, along with the other officers were required to undergo a mental health evaluation. That is part of the department’s procedure after a shooting.

“It’s his second shooting,” Hagar said. “We want to make sure all of our officers are healthy.”

The officers involved in the shooting at North Pinegrove Drive and West Canfield Avenue that killed Fares J. Al Samno earlier this month include Officer Craig Wade and Detective Nathan Herbig of the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, and Deputy Doug Goodman of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

The name of an Idaho State Police trooper who was involved in the incident was not released. The Post Falls Police Department, which was assigned as the lead investigative agency following the incident, released the names of the deputy and police officers Tuesday, but did not say why the trooper’s name was left out, only that the name would be released later.

According to a news release from Capt. Greg McLean of Post Falls, Officer Wade is a three-year veteran with Coeur d’Alene police. Detective Herbig has been with the department for two years and spent six years with the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office. Officer Brazle worked three years at the Spirit Lake Police Department before joining Coeur d’Alene. Deputy Goodman is a seven-year veteran of the sheriff’s office.

Coeur d’Alene police responded to a report at about 9:50 a.m., of a man acting erratically in the usually quiet residential neighborhood west of the Silver Lake mall. When police arrived Al Samno was allegedly armed with a knife and refused to drop the weapon. He approached officers aggressively, police said. Officers shot Al Samno with bean bags, and a Taser, but Al Samno continued to charge police.

Neighbors said they heard two initial shots, which they think were the bean bags being fired at Al Samno. Then there was a pause before a salvo of gunfire erupted.

In a July 4 incident, police shot Tyler Rambo in downtown Coeur d’alene after he leveled a .357 revolver at them and fired a round, according to police. Rambo faces attempted murder and other charges. He is in the Kootenai County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
