Buddhist nun to speak at North Idaho College

| September 20, 2019 1:00 AM

“Connecting with Integrity,” a public talk with American Buddhist nun, Ven. Thubten Chodron, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at North Idaho College

You want to connect, but the other persons’s ideas are so wrong! How do we relate to people who hold different views while staying true to our values? American Buddhist nun, Ven. Thubten Chodron shares thoughts on how to connect in kind, meaningful, and authentic ways in “Connecting with Integrity,” a public talk at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene, on Oct. 8, from 6:30-8 p.m. Sponsored by NIC Diversity Steering Committee, the talk is in the Coeur d’Alene Room of the Edminster Student Union Building. There is no charge and students and the general public are welcomed.

Ven. Chodron speaks regularly at NIC, offering insight into contemporary issues from her perspective as a long-time student of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. A prolific author, Ven. Chodron teaches worldwide and is known for her practical (and humorous) explanations of how to apply wisdom and compassion in daily life. She is also the founder and abbess of Sravasti Abbey near Newport.

Sravasti Abbey is one of the first monasteries in the U.S. for Western students in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. While monastic training is the focus, lay guests are welcome to join the community for Buddhist programs, meditation, or just to visit. A schedule of events and detailed visiting information can be found at SravastiAbbey.org.
