Mental errors cost Sandpoint in loss to Moscow

MOSCOW — Sandpoint volleyball lost its second straight league match to Moscow in three sets Thursday night. The Bulldogs fell 24-26, 16-25, 18-25.
Sandpoint Head Coach Karen Alsager said she is worried about her team’s mental confidence after the loss.
“Moscow’s not an easy place to play in and the crowd is pretty rowdy but regardless ... that’s probably my biggest concern,” she said.
Senior outside hitter Jenny Slaveck led Sandpoint’s offensive effort with eight kills.
The Bulldogs will be without Slaveck for Saturday’s match in Lewiston because she is heading on a recruiting trip to Maine. Alsager said the team will miss her presence against the Blue Devils.
“It’s going to be hard to not have her with us, but we’re proud of her for getting to go,” she said.
Senior outside Katie Korn added seven kills and junior middle blocker slowed down the Bears offense with five blocks.
Junior’s Katie Stewart and Sam Koster each had 6 digs and junior Kaylee Banks contributed 14 set assists.
The loss drops the Bulldogs overall record to 5-4 this season and they remain winless in league play through two matches after falling to Lakeland in three sets at home on Tuesday.
Despite the defeat, Alsager said there were some positives the team could build on.
“I thought our passing was a little better than when we played Lakeland,” she said. “We worked on that [Wednesday] so that was good. Not sure we had the best choices of attacks so we need to be working on that.”
Sandpoint will play at Lewiston 2 p.m.
