2nd Amendment rally is Sept. 28

SANDPOINT — Supporter of the Second Amendment are gathering for a rally at City Beach on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The hour-long event is set to start at 7 p.m.

The event is being organized by the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance, a group which has retained legal counsel in a potential challenge to the Festival of Sandpoint’s prohibition against firearms at its annual waterfront concert series on Lake Pend Oreille. The concert series is held at War Memorial Field, a venue owned by the city and annually leased to the festival.

Idaho law prohibits the infringement of Second Amendment rights on public property, although the city of Sandpoint has defended the festival’s lessee right to set security protocols at its concerts. Festival organizers have said a prohibition against firearms are part of performing artists’ contractual demands.
