LEWISTON — Sandpoint volleyball lost its third straight match Saturday in Lewiston. The Bulldogs fell in three sets 15-25, 22-25, 17-25.

The defeat drops the team to 5-5 this season.

Head coach Karen Alsager didn’t hold back when asked about how she thought her team performed.

“I thought they played terrible,” she said.

Alsager said she didn’t think the Blue Devils did anything to throw the Bulldogs off their game.

“It was us, it wasn’t them,” she said. “There was nothing special that they did. We didn’t have one kill in the first game, not one kill because we didn’t pass well and we weren’t giving it our full effort so its discouraging.”

Sandpoint played without senior Jenny Slaveck who was on a recruiting trip in Maine.

Senior Aly Lish stepped up in Slaveck’s absence and led the team with eight digs. Junior Katie Stewart had six digs and Stewart, and juniors Cee Cee Deprez and Sam Koster each collected two service aces.

Junior Gabby Hicks led the Bulldogs offensive effort with six kills and senior Katie Korn added five kills.

Junior Bella Phillips made her presence known as she racked up five blocks in the match.

“I don’t think any of the 5A teams we’ve played have been great, really strong 5A teams,” Alsager said. “They are teams that if we play hard we can compete with them but we are just choosing not too.”

Alsager said she is hoping to give her team an emotional jolt this week.

“I’m looking forward to having a tough practice on Monday and waking them up from their coma, ” Alsager said.

Sandpoint will stay on the road to take on Post Falls and Genesis Prep starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Post Falls High School.
