HOPE — A head-on crash Saturday afternoon sent at least one person to the hospital.

The crash, which was reported about 2:40 p.m., required extrication of one patient from the water, according to Bonner County EMS on the department’s Facebook page.

BCEMS officials reported that when the department arrived on scene, one patient was reported trapped in their vehicle in their water. Northside and Selkirk firefighters were able to extricate the patient out of vehicle as well as up the steep embankment.

Also assisting at the scene were BCSO deputies who entered the water to render assistance and rescue the trapped individual.

The patient was treated by Bonner County EMS paramedic level crews and the individual was transported by Lifeflight Helicopter to Kootenai Health for further treatment.

No further details on the accident, which partially blocked the highway for a period of time, or the patient’s condition were available Monday evening. An investigation by Idaho State Police is ongoing.
