'Invest in Idaho' sets Blanchard stop

| September 25, 2019 1:00 AM

Reclaim Idaho officials will be making a stop in Blanchard next month as part of its Invest in Idaho Tour. Officials will be in Blanchard on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. at Blanchard Community Center, 685 Rusho Lane, Blanchard.

Reclaim Idaho has filed its “Invest in Idaho” citizen ballot initiative, which the group says will increase investments in K-12 education in Idaho, adding that the state is in the middle of a years-long education and jobs crisis that Idaho’s politicians have refused to address.

The “Invest in Idaho” citizen ballot initiative will call for increased investments from corporations — both in-state and out-of-state — as well as Idaho’s richest individuals making $250,000 or more per year.

Corporate investments will increase by only 1.075 percent while Idaho’s richest individuals (those making more than a quarter-million-dollars per year) will only invest 3 percent more.

Together, Reclaim Idaho officials said that the initiative is designed to increase investments in K-12 education by $170-200 million annually.

Representatives from Reclaim Idaho are traveling around the state to detail the group’s initiative and to seek public support in getting the funding measure on the ballot.

At the Blanchard event, those attending will learn about the iniative, how to sign up to take action, how to volunteer for upcoming signature drives and meet organizers.
