ST. MARIES — Priest River football surrendered 32 points in the first half of a 51-14 loss to St. Maries on Friday, Sept. 12.

“I was not happy with the final score,” Priest River head coach Jared Hughes said in an email. “We made a lot of mental errors in the game that you could blame on youth, but we have to be better if we want to give ourselves a chance the rest of the year.”

The Spartans drop to 0-3 with loss.

The Lumberjacks (3-1) jumped on Priest River early, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter. However, the Spartans were able to break through for a score of their own in the first when senior quarterback Caden Brennan found senior running back Teagun Holycross for a 76-yard touchdown pass.

St. Maries shut out Priest River in the second quarter to take a 51-14 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Brennan was able to connect with sophomore wide receiver Robert Johnson for a 21 yard touchdown in the third quarter but the Spartans were unable to keep up with the Lumberjacks.

Junior Coby Rogers led the team with 10.5 tackles and 27 rushing yards on offense.

Priest River will travel to Grangeville High School to take on the Bulldogs 4 p.m. Saturday.
