Church launches peanut butter and jelly sandwich Saturday

| September 27, 2019 1:00 AM

Sandpoint United Methodist Church is launching Peanut Butter and Jelly Saturday, offering a free PB&J lunch to anyone in the Sandpoint area who is hungry. This is happening this Saturday, Sept. 28, and every Saturday thereafter. Grab and go bags will be provided between 11a.m. and 1 p.m. in the afternoon at the front door of the Sandpoint United Methodist Church, 711 Main St., in Sandpoint.

Although there are community meals during the workweek, there are not any free meals on Saturday, and many are going all weekend without a nutritious meal. Each meal contains a PB&J sandwich, a piece of fruit (apple, etc.), a bag of chips, water, and a little treat.

“At the community meal, which the Methodist Church provides every Thursday, we realized that we could not un-see the need over the weekend,” said Donna Davis, program organizer. “Every Thursday we serve up to 100 people and the thought of them going hungry on Saturday was not acceptable. Peanut Butter and Jelly Saturday is “the right thing to do.”

Everyone who is in need is welcome and the meal is always free. Sandpoint United Methodist is committed to easing the pain of anyone who is hungry, lonely, forgotten, in need of simple fellowship, in trouble, or afraid regardless of their religious views. Sandpoint United Methodist is an inclusive congregation welcoming all regardless of race, origin, language, faith, gender identification, sexual preferences, or marital and family status.
