Clark Fork sweeps Mullan for second time this season

CLARK FORK — The Lady Cats volleyball team continued their dominance in the North Star League with a three set victory over Mullan on Thursday night.
Clark Fork won 25-14, 25-11, 25-9 to improve to 5-0 in league play and earn a season sweep of the Mustangs.
“They played really good I was super happy,” Clark Fork head coach Michelle Valliere said. “They were communicating, doing a lot of the stuff we’ve been talking about that we need to do on the court ... Mullan played really well tonight and we did a good job keeping our end of the court and playing our game.”
Early on in the first set of the match, Mullan was able to keep pace with the Lady Cats but a kill by senior outside hitter Ellie Kiebert helped spark a 13-5 run by Clark Fork after the score was tied 5-5.
Trailing 18-10, the Mustangs called a timeout to try and regroup, however, the Lady Cats didn’t let up after the break and kept up the pressure to earn a first set victory.
Mullan fought even harder in the second set and with the help of a few errors from Clark Fork they were able to make the score 9-9. The Lady Cats took control from there and went on a 14-2 run to secure the second set.
After falling behind 5-2 in the third set, the Lady Cats did what they do best and closed out the match as Kiebert hit three kills to help Clark Fork earn the straight set victory.
“Mullan would start out strong and they would kind of fade as the game went on a little bit,” Michelle Valliere said, “and we just ran away with it at the end of the games.”
Senior Sophie McMahon led the Lady Cats with seven kills and Kiebert finished with five kills and six aces.
Freshman setter Paige Valliere had a strong showing with 18 assists and junior Grace Browne collected four kills.
The Lady Cats (6-1) will take on Sandpoint’s JV team 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Les Rogers Court.
Michelle Valliere said she expects a tight match against the Bulldogs.
“We haven’t seen a ton of competition in our last few matches so it will be nice to go up against a little harder team,” she said.
