KOOTENAI — The city’s patience with Squeeky’s Mini Storage had worn thin.

Counsel for the city filed suit in 1st District Court on Thursday against the operators of the self-storage and rental warehousing business to force compliance with city codes related to outdoor storage and fencing. The suit follows a decade of failed attempts to coax Squeeky’s into compliance, according to court documents.

The city contends Squeeky’s has run afoul of land use design standards for storage operations by allowing the outdoor storage of materials without a sight-obscuring fence. The suit seeks a permanent injunction forbidding the business from storing materials outside or requiring it to erect the fencing.

The city put Squeeky’s on notice in 2018 that it was violating city code, but it yielded no result, according to court documents in the case.
