Prison ordered in heroin case

SANDPOINT — A Bonner County woman accused of smuggling 75 grams of black tar heroin into the Bonner County jail has been sentenced to prison.

Judge Barbara Buchanan ordered Eternity Dawn Bottenfield to serve up to five years in prison, but retained jurisdiction over the defendant, 1st District Court records show. That means Bottenfield will serve up to a year in prison before being considered for release onto probation.

The sentence will run concurrently with a one- to two-year term in a heroin possession case dating back to 2018.

Bottenfield, 22, was charged with trafficking after heroin was discovered in one of the jail’s dorms earlier this year. An inmate told Sandpoint Police Bottenfield secreted the narcotics into the jail in an orifice. Bottenfield allegedly used heroin with other inmates or to barter for personal care items, according to court documents. Some of the misconduct was captured by the facility’s surveillance cameras.

Bottenfield pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of possession of heroin. Additional charges of delivery of a controlled substance, introducing contraband into a correctional facility and paraphernalia possession were dismissed in exchange for the plea, court records indicate.
