April 14, 1970 — POP ANDERSON RETIRES

Charles E. “Pop” Anderson, 85, an employee at the Moon Funeral Home Chapel for seven years, has retired. Pop and his wife Della retired April 1 to permit them to move to Coeur d’Alene to be near their son Don Anderson. L.G. “Bud” Moon Jr. said “Pop has been an excellent funeral usher and office assistant. It’s going to be hard to replace him.”

BURNETTS HEAD CATTLEMEN, COWBELLES

At the annual Bonner County Cattlemen’s Association meeting, Art Burnett was elected president of the cattlemen and Mrs. Burnett was chosen to head the Cowbelles. Other cattlemen’s association officers include Bill Woolsey, vice president, and Raynold Davis, secretary.

Directors are Denny Shields, Oden; John Deeter, Edgemere; Bob Naccarato, Priest River; and Art Jasman, Jewel Lake.

Cowbelle officers include Mrs. Frances Crandell, vice president; Mrs. Susan Bristow, secretary; Barbara Woolsey, historian, and Bernice Wood, reporter.

Governor Davis has issued a proclamation fixing May 1 as American Day in Idaho and asks community observance by program and demonstration.

KNIGHT OF THE BLACK STAR

Clyde J. Chaffins, Sandpoint, has received a citation and decoration making him a member of the French Legion of Honor. He earned the honor for his card system by which he moved and checked troops in France while serving as a major with the headquarters of the A.E.F. and his success in the specialized phases of his duty.

HIGH SCHOOL NOTES

A hard times party is to be given by the sophomore class Saturday at G.A.R. hall. There will be fines for those wearing good clothes. The admission will be 35c.

Margaret Hoyt, who has been absent five weeks with scarlet fever, has returned to school.

Commencement exercises will be held the week of May 28. No definite time has been set.

Leona Bartlett returned to school last week after an absence of several weeks.

The combinations to the new lockers, which were recently installed, have been given out by the principal.
