April 16, 1970 — SPRING LUNCHEON

A spring luncheon was given at Silver Pines by Mrs. L.E. Pietsch for her bridge club. Sprays of forsythia and daffodils carried out the spring theme. Mrs. L.J. Davis, Mrs. R.M. Curtis and Mrs. R.E. McFarland were winners at bridge.

PLAN GETS PRELIMINARY APPROVAL

Sun Mountain Village, the most extensive real estate development in Bonner County’s history, received preliminary approval from the County Planning and Zoning Commission Thursday.

The big residential development embraces the former T.T. McGhee ranch and other property on the Pack River flats northeast of Sandpoint, and will include 1,200 acres on both sides of SH200.

Thomas Burgess, representing developer James Berry of Sandpoint, said plans include a year-around residential-recreational complex with 540 residential lots of 10,000-15,000 sq. ft. each, a condominium array of 800 dwelling units, a ten acre covered mall type shopping center, an 18 hole championship golf course, a recreational club, ski lift, swimming pools and several parks.

100 YEARS OLD

Mrs. Ella Collins celebrated her 100th birthday anniversary April 13 at the Sandpoint Manor. She is the grandmother of Mrs. Betty Abromeit.

April 16, 1920 — REMODELING GUILD HALL

Members of St. Agnes Episcopal Guild are having the guild hall on Oak and Sixth (Ed. Note: In 2020, site of Sandpoint Cyclery) remodeled. It will be repainted inside and out, the floor put in shape for dancing, the walls decorated and the windows draped. A wood shed will be built on and a vestibule will be added. Connection with the city sewer system is being made and a new kitchen range installed. The hall, furnished with piano, tables, chairs, and dishes, makes an ideal place for small dancing parties or tea or card festivities.

MUD HALTS FIRE APPARATUS

Conditions of the city’s streets prevented the fire department reaching a blaze at Ed Doust’s barn on Lake street Monday. In responding to the alarm the fire department’s heavy truck three times mired down in the mud of Lake street, the third time on Lake and Ruth, where further progress was impossible, the wheels down to the hubs in mud. The barn was a total loss.

SELLS UNDERTAKING BUSINESS

E.M. Brower on Tuesday sold to B.W. Pugh of Colfax, Wash., the Brower undertaking business at (420 N.) 3rd street, giving instant possession. Mr. Pugh will add to the stock of the business and equip it with a combined hearse and ambulance.

Mr. Brower entered Sandpoint’s undertaking business in 1906, when he bought out H.E. Hunt who established the business a few years before.
