Eating for good health both nutritious, delicious

| April 22, 2020 1:00 AM

Ask a busy adult to take on just one more thing and they will sigh a deep breath, roll their eyes and think about punching you in the arm.

With today’s pressures placed on us, I thought it would be helpful to provide my readers with a few simple steps that can be taken to boost your health and leave you with more energy.

Did you know that adding a vitamin-C rich food or juice with an iron-containing food boosts the amount of iron your body absorbs? Yes, it is true.

Season your lean beef entrees with parsley and fresh thyme. Parsley also cleanses your liver!

Or, add spinach and bell peppers to your omelet.

Or, eat peanut butter on toast with a few slices of strawberries, on the side. They are all delicious.

Nutri-tional yeast flakes are loaded with nutrients that support slimming and rev energy. Only 1 1/2 tablespoons provides 8 grams protein, 4 grams of filling fiber and more than 100 percent of the recommended daily doses of thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folate, and B12.

Convert your nutritious food into fuel, detoxify the liver, regulate your blood sugar and increase the production of appetite-regulating brain chemicals.

Regardless of what you have going on in your life. Work. Kids. Stress. Feed your body with the expectation of how you want it to run. Eat crud, you will feel like crud.

When you put real, high quality nutrition into your body, you will see and feel tremendous results. I have friends who are always tired, lethargic, fatigued and they never have the energy to do anything but take a nap at 3 p.m. in the afternoon.

I encourage all of my friends and clients to clean out their kitchen and start with a fresh slate of clean, organic food. It’s easy.

To put it even more simply: Make your dinner green.

No. I’m not suggesting a bowl of iceberg lettuce — that’s boring and not going to be beneficial for you. Load up a plate with kale, spinach, cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes, celery, carrots, broccoli florets and a sliced, cooked chicken breast on top. Doesn’t that sound delicious and nutritious? Yes, it does!

And while you are at it, say hello to H20. Put down the high calorie, sugar-laden drinks and reach for water. You could easily consume an entire day’s worth of calories in your drinks alone. Crazy as that many sound, it’s true.
