Apr. 23, 1970 – TOURED 31 STATES

Carl Hammill returned home after an 11-month trip taking him through 31 states, as he visited relatives in Michigan, Florida, California and Montana. He has a daughter in Roseville, Calif. and two in Missoula, the last stop on his trip.

MRS. McCORMICK TO SPEAK

Highlighting the 47th annual Woman’s Day program at Montana State University will be a talk by Mrs. Don McCormick of Sandpoint.

The former Edith Ann Olsen, Mrs. McCormick earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics from MSU in 1965. She has titled her Woman’s Day speech “Happiness Happens As You Live.”

SILVER WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Shadel hosted an open house April 18 at the Selle Grange for the couple’s 25th wedding anniversary. Sharon and Kenneth Shadel came home for the party.

Mrs. Robert Wood and Mrs. Leigh Shadel served the lovely wedding cake, decorated by Mrs. Don Lund. Mrs. William Hall poured coffee; Mrs. Jim Wood served punch; Mrs. Robert Green served ice cream; Mrs. Leigh had charge of the guest book.

Mrs. Art Burnett, Mrs. Jack Russell and Mrs. Stan Meserve assisted in the kitchen. The honored couple danced to “The Anniversary Waltz” to begin an evening of dancing to the lively music furnished by Art Burnett, Mrs. Frances Poelstra, Kenneth Carey and Harold Overland.

Apr. 23, 1920 – CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS

The city council accepted the bid of Dennis Woods, Spokane, for the preliminary engineering for the Oak street paving district and that of S. Fourth, S. Huron and S. Euclid avenues, Anton and Erie streets and Lakeview boulevard.

The city dads passed the “anti-live-stock-at-large” ordinance requested by the Civic club.

The need for a city dumping ground was left to the health and sanitation committee, and action to insure better fire protection to residents on the city’s outskirts was left to the fire dept. committee. The action was asked after the recent stalling of the fire truck on Lake St. en route to Ed Doust’s.

NEW YORKERS VISIT CLARKSFORK MINES

A real mining boom has started in Clarksfork and the town has been the mecca for days of New Yorkers seeking to finance some of the many mining properties thereabouts.

This rich mineral district was abandoned in the panic of 1893 and only recently have there been any signs of arousing the camp from its dormant state.

CITY BREVITIES

The Crescent Pharmacy (1st & Cedar) Monday opened its soda fountain for the summer season.

Art Cash thinks “Daddy” is the only name going since a 9-pound boy (Orville) arrived at his home.
