Celebrate library’s many innovations

| April 24, 2020 1:00 AM

This year during National Library Week, let’s celebrate by showing our appreciation for the many innovative ways libraries, librarians and library workers are continuing to serve their communities during a time of crisis.

This week, the East Bonner County Library District invites all community members to find the library at their place by visiting www.ebonnerlibrary.org to access virtual services and resources. While the library’s physical locations may be temporarily closed due to COVID-19, you can discover eBooks, movies, and much more - all from home.

In times of crisis, libraries respond to their community’s needs in innovative and inspiring ways.

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, we are continuing to make a difference in people’s lives by providing electronic learning and entertainment resources, as well as information about keeping your family well and safe. There are a wide array of virtual services available in The Digital Library such as educational materials for all grade-levels, movie/TV show streaming, music, and eBooks/audiobooks. You will also find genealogy research help, travel resources, skills development, and small business information. Give us a call at 208-263-6930 extension 1209 or email infodesk@ebonnerlibrary.org with your questions. Check our website for updates regarding changes to library services during the closure.

Some of those updates include announcements regarding returns and curbside holds pick up! Last week, we started opening the book drops at the Sandpoint and Clark Fork Libraries on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We plan to do this weekly until we reopen our doors.

If you reserved materials prior to the library closure, you will be able to pick them up via curbside service starting this Tuesday, April 28. Holds pick-up will be available weekly, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sand-point Branch only.

For details, visit the COVID-19 Updates page at www.ebonnerlibrary.org.

April 19-25, 2020 is National Library Week, a time to highlight the valuable role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. This National Library Week, you can show your appreciation and support by checking out digital materials, following us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, using the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek and #7BLibrary.

The original theme for National Library Week, “Find your place at the library,” was chosen months ago before the emergence of a global pandemic would force libraries to close their buildings. In response to our rapidly changing times, the theme was revised to “Find the library at your place” to bring attention to how libraries are open for business online, offering the electronic services and digital content their communities need now more than ever.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries of all types across the country each April.

We miss you and we are continually looking for new ways to serve you during National Library Week, the COVID 19 crisis, and always.
