AIRPORT EXPANSION DISCUSSED
Airport committee member Archie Yager paints a picture of genuine need for airport expansion. “What started out four years ago as a simple little expansion has changed,” he said. Original plans were to extend the runway within the property’s bounds to provide a 5,000-foot runway, but Great Northern’s plan for a high speed cross-over track caused the airport to lose 500 feet of runway at the field’s southwest end, so that all expansion must be to its northeast end. The airport is waiting to hear whether the FAA approves its application for $96,000 to replace the lost runway and increase its length from 3200 to 5000 feet.
