County revisits chip sealing
SAGLE — Bonner County is making another pass at chip sealing roads after a disappointing chip-sealing season in 2019.
Chip sealing on Lakeshore Drive was particularly problematic, according to Road & Bridge Director Steve Klatt.
“We applied an oil that did not set up and because it contains a water-based polymer, moisture on the road would create a residue that splattered a coating on numerous car finishes. Bonner County paid for an extraordinary number of car detailing bills,” said Klatt.
The road department has returned to the roads that failed in 2019 and completed a fresh overlay of chip seals that has sealed the residue under a hard surface. Bonner County stopped accepting claims on Aug. 3. Those who have contacted the Risk Management Department prior to that are encouraged to submit their claims soon, Klatt said.
