Aug. 16, 1970 — ADMITTED TO EWSC

SHS graduate Carla J. Elliot, has been admitted as a freshman to EWSC for the fall quarter. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Elliot, Carla plans to major in physical education.

ABANDONMENT ADVOCATED

After much discussion at Thursday’s special meeting of the Bonner County Planning and Zoning Commission, Wayne Goin moved that the Kootenai Cutoff should be extended to N. Boyer, saying “this would appear to be the best long-term solution.” After that motion was defeated, the commission voted to recommend abandonment of the Airport Cutoff Road from US 95 to the top of the hill west of Sand Creek and creation of a new cutoff through the Vedelwood subdivision and land owned by Pete Thompson.

KOA CAMPGROUND PLANNED

Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Wieber of Spokane have announced plans for a KOA campground on the Garfield Bay road just off US 95, five miles south of Sandpoint. Construction will begin next month, with full operation expected May 1971. The facility will have 120 sites for travel trailers, pick-up campers, tent trailers and tents. A central A-frame building will hold an office, grocery, snack bar and curio shop, laundry, dressing rooms and a living area for the operators. There will also be a heated pool, playground, and outdoor amphitheater.

Aug. 16, 1920 — LIGHTNING KILLS COW

During the severe wind and electrical storm of Tuesday night lightning struck a barn at the Marcus Zastrow ranch near Colburn, killing one cow and doing some damage to the barn although not setting it afire.

DISCONTINUE USE OF SCHOOL GROUNDS

The school board voted to discontinue the permission of use of the central school building grounds for public entertainments, effective after the Elks carnival which has been promised the use of the grounds the first week of September. The decision was made after Supt. Breckenridge reported that during Chautauqua, nuisances were committed about the school building.

CITY BREVITIES

H.T. Miller, who served with the 28th Iowa infantry in the civil war, departed for Boise where he will enter the soldiers’ home for treatment.

Dr. R.N. Valentine and family have moved into the residence at 318 S. Second which the doctor last week purchased from Mrs. Anna Schramm.

Krebs and Adam, proprietors of the Economy grocery store on 2nd & Pine, have built a watering trough on the vacant lot across from their store.

Pine street grocery observed its 1st anniversary by giving ice cream and cake to customers. Since it began, the store has done an excellent trade.
