Aug. 18, 1970 — SETS WEDDING DATE

Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Kenworthy announce the engagement of their daughter, Wendy Elaine, to Norbert L. Edwardsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Edwardsen, Allis, Wis. Miss Kenworthy, a 1969 U of I graduate, has been teaching in Makawao, Hawaii. The groom-elect will graduate from the U of I College of Forestry in Jan. 1971. The wedding date has been set for Sept. 19 in the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint.

BOOTERY’S GRAND OPENING POPULAR

Bob Kalb said the grand opening of his new up-to-date store at 109 Cedar St. was a pleasant success. Hundreds came and there were so many best wishes and flowers that for a time, the store looked more like a florist shop than a shoe store. Recipients of shoes as door prizes were Millicent Jaeger, Sandpoint, men’s shoes; Mrs. Ed Lichter, Rt. 1, Sandpoint, ladies’ shoes; and Walter Meritt, Rt. 1, Sandpoint, children’s shoes.

DR. BIRD REBUILDS FIRE TRUCK

Dr. Forrest Bird, Glengary Bay, has the county’s “newest” fire truck, a 1942 International, which did years of duty at the Spokane Airport before it was retired last spring. Bird purchased it for the Bird Corp. complex at Glengary for $1200 in April. Bird, whose present investment in it is $15,000, says that any neighbor can call, day or night, if he needs the truck to fight fire.

Aug.18, 1920 — AWNING FIRE AT HOTEL

The fire department was called to the Hotel Idaho about 9:30 a.m. Sunday to check a blaze that destroyed an awning and scorched a window casing on the second story. It is thought that the blaze was started by a lighted cigarette butt thrown carelessly from one of the upper windows. The flames were checked with a hand chemical.

EMPLOY DEMONSTRATION AGENT

A mass meeting of the farm bureau women met with the county commissioners and asked that Miss Mary Lucille Lee, home demonstration agent who has been here four months as a university extension department staff member, be employed as a permanent home demonstration agent. The meeting succeeded in gaining the assent of the commissioners to Miss Lee’s employment.

Sires and Sires have been busy moving their bees from the old stands to the northern part of the district where fire weed is plentiful.

Tom and Al Palmer have bought five fine young colts from the Humbird Lumber company.

INCREASE IN FARES

Local Northern Pacific officials received notice of an increase in passenger fares to take effect Aug. 26, with an increase of about 2 per cent.
