POST FALLS — The defending 4A state champs shutout Post Falls on Tuesday to grab their first Inland Empire League victory of the season.

Led by junior Piper Frank, who tallied one goal and two assists, the Sandpoint girls soccer team grabbed a 4-0 win over the Trojans.

“Just like the last game there are a lot of positives and we could also work on absolutely everything,” head coach Conor Baranski said. “It was a little sloppy but 4-0 is a very adequate result, it could’ve been more.”

Sophomore Kelsey Cessna opened the scoring for the Bulldogs in the 20th minute on an assist from freshman Hannah Harvey. Two minutes later, Frank buried her goal off a feed from freshman Charlie Morgan to put Sandpoint up 2-0.

In the second half, Frank assisted on a goal by Kendall Rubright in the 42nd minute and a tally by Jordie Breeden in the 44th to put the game out of reach.

“Piper Frank played extremely well,” Baranski said. “She was definitely the engine behind a lot of our energy, especially in the first half.”

Baranski said he was impressed with Cessna, his freshmen and junior Erin Eddy and freshman Aliya Strock in the back line.

“Kelsey Cessna was just a rock in the back,” he said. “She’s a beast.”
