NEW APPLIANCE SMASHES TRASH
With the problem of solid waste receiving major public attention, Whirlpool has put on the market a new “trash smasher.” The new appliance will be on display this week in “Self” Service Appliance & T.V.’s display booth at the Bonner County Fair. The trash smasher compacts a week’s garbage for a family of four into a waterproof sack weighing 20 - 30 pounds. An electric ram crushes bottles, cans and similar containers to 1/5 normal size. After a one-minute cycle, the garbage is sprayed with deodorant and germ killer, and then the compact package is ready for disposal.

COLD STOPS BATHERS
With the abrupt turning of the weather the past week, chilly nights and but fairly warm days, the number of bathers at the municipal beach has fallen steadily until only a few have taken to the water at all. Superintendent Irons said “Tourists and visitors are enthusiastic over the beach’s future and the starts made to improve and utilize the only real summer resort in the Inland Empire.”

MRS. IRION NOMINATION A BIG SURPRISE
Her nomination on the democratic ticket for congress, first district, was a complete surprise to her, said Mrs. Nell K. Irion, who arrived on No. 3 from Idaho Falls today. Mrs. Irion has already been besieged by newspapers far and near for information in regard to herself, the nomination for congress being one of the first of women in the United States.
