SHS cross country announces end-of-season awards

The Sandpoint cross country team recently announced its end-of-season awards.

Due to the pandemic, the Bulldogs were unable to hold a traditional banquet to celebrate another successful season. The boys took fourth at state to claim their first trophy since 2014 and the girls captured ninth, their best finish since 2017.

The team livestreamed the event on their Facebook page so parents could watch.

Here is a list of the awards handed out:

Scholastic Award (given to varsity seniors with highest GPAs): Jett Lucas (4.298 weighted GPA) and Camille Neuder (4.429 GPA).

Most Valuable Runners (by points at meets. Shows translation of year-round work, commitment, devotion. Success in distance running is no accident, it is day in and day out devotion and leading by example): Girls team — Mackenzie Suhy-Gregoire. Boys team — Jett Lucas and Nikolai Braedt (three-time winner).

Coaches’ Awards (outstanding contributions to team, devotion to team and training): Grace Rookey, Tiffany Brown, Annaby Kanning, Camille Neuder, Trey Clark, Nate Dotson, Ben Ricks, Nathan Roche and Kasten Grimm.

Most Improved: Boys — Slate Fragoso went from a 19:15 during a time trial as a freshman to a PR of 16:58 this fall. Girls team — Payton Betz went from a 25:36 last year to a 22:06 this season.

Will Johnson/Most Inspirational/Motivational (recipients inspire team unity and represent the team in every way): Keegan Nelson, Megan Oulman and Ara Clark.

Extra Mile Award (recipients go above and beyond what is expected of them): Will Dotson, Audrey Anderson and Quinn Hooper.

Team Captain Awards: Quinn Hooper, Camille Neuder, Keegan Nelson, Nikolai Braedt and Jett Lucas.
