ISU speaker to talk to class

Through the efforts of the PTSA, a speaker on the U. S. Constitution will be speaking to Brandon Keinert’s U.S. history classes at Priest River Lamanna High School on Dec. 19. David Adler, an Idaho State University Political Science professor, will also speak at Priest River Junior High and the Blanchard Community Church.

30 Years Ago — 1990

Baskets supply dinners

West Bonner County Food Bank supplied Thanksgiving dinner to over 350 families through the annual Holiday Basket Distribution at Priest River’s Community Congregational Church Nov. 20. Area food drives and donations by local businesses, organizations and individual families made it possible.

40 Years Ago — 1980

Runnels chosen

Les Runnels is this year’s Priest River Citizen of the Year. Runnels has a long list of civic accomplishments. Among them, he once served as mayor of Priest River, and he currently serves as president of the Kaniksu Clinic.

50 Years Ago — 1970

Snowmobile races planned

The Priest Lake and Priest River Chambers of Commerce, in conjunction with the Ridge Runners and Kool Cats Snowmobile clubs, will sponsor northern Idaho’s first large-scale cross country snowmobile race on Sunday, Feb. 7. It will be 100 miles plus, and will be WSA sanctioned.

60 Years Ago — 1960

Seniors perform in three plays

Priest River people had the opportunity to see three excellent one-act plays presented by the senior high School class at the auditorium last Wednesday night and under the direction of drama instructor Carl H. Herzog.

70 Years Ago — 1950

James Runck dies

James Runck, 74, died suddenly Tuesday evening of a heart attack. Mr. Runck was born in Italy and had been a resident of Priest River for 54 years, and for the past many years the proprietor of Runck’s Garage.

80 Years Ago — 1940

He got the deer

Ole Auslie comes across with a story he believes will climax all deer hunting stories that have been in the Times recently. Ole states that while he and Mickey Young were driving back to Jones camp on East river, a big blacktail buck jumped into the road in front if the truck and was blinded by the headlights. Ole, not having a rifle close at hand, jumped out of the truck, grabbed the buck by the horns and broke its neck. Ole then cut the buck’s neck. He swears this story is the gospel truth.

90 Years Ago — 1930

Turkey shoots successful

Tony Jachetta and James Runck took in the turkey shoot at Thama Ferry Sunday morning and in the afternoon took in the annual shoot of the Dalkena Gun Club. The boys returned with two turkeys each.

100 Years Ago — 1920

From baseball to sledding

Through the efforts of some of the women of our city, the baseball grounds east of the city will be used this winter as a skating pond. A furrow has been plowed around the diamond, and when the ground has been frozen sufficiently to retain the water, the plot will be flooded for skating. Permission has been secured from C.P. Lindsley.
