PRIEST RIVER — A fast start propelled Clark Fork boys basketball to its first victory of the season on Saturday.

The Wampus Cats took down the Priest River JV team 54-32 in a consolation game at the Spartan Christmas Tournament.

"Tonight, we focused on taking care of the ball and being patient on offense," head coach Heath Beason said after the game. "We ran our offense great and we took care of the ball with only six turnovers."

Clark Fork jumped out to a 24-2 first-quarter lead and cruised from there.

Carter Sanroman led the team with 22 points.

"Carter wanted this on his shoulders and he came through," Beason said.

Cole Reuter scored 19 points and Sam Barnett added 8.

"Our starters were able to work with our freshmen and help them with their confidence," Beason said.

The Wampus Cats (1-4) will host Mullan at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
