Dec. 20, 1970 – STREET LIGHTS APPROVED

The City Council Monday approved modernized overhead street lighting along Pine St. and Boyer Ave. The new lighting will include 25 mercury vapor units, plus a high intensity mercury vapor unit at the Pine St. and SH 200 intersection (Fifth and Pine). A unit similar to those on Pine and Boyer also will be installed at the intersection of Washington Ave. and Walnut St.

WESTWOOD PRELIMINARY PLAT OKAYED

The City Council Monday approved the preliminary plat of “Westwood,” formerly known as the Sandpointer. The condominium development on the Pend Oreille River near the city, encompasses 24 living units. The council also adopted, under suspended rules, Ordinance 400 annexing the first addition to the city’s Schweitzer Addition.

JOAN C. DENNIS WED JOHN PUCCI

The First United Methodist in Coeur d’Alene was the setting for the wedding of Joan C. Dennis and John W. Pucci. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Dennis, Coeur d’Alene; the groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Gene Pucci, Sandpoint. A reception was held in the North Shore Convention Center. Mr. and Mrs. Pucci reside in Sandpoint after a wedding trip to Reno and the California coast.

Dec. 20, 1920 – CITY BREVITIES

Saturday’s fancy work and candy sale held by St. Agnes Episcopal guild at Guild hall (Note: in 2020, the site of Sandpoint Cyclery) netted over $200, to go toward recent hall improvements.

St. Agnes Guild hall, attractively equipped for social gatherings, for rent at the rate of $7 for afternoon, $10 for evening. Call Mrs. T.L. Greer.

Dr. Wendle was at Priest River Saturday in his capacity as county health officer, called there by an epidemic of smallpox. There were five cases, one of the victims being Dr. Getzlaff.

John Derr of Clarksfork and Mike Mulvihill of Cabinet were business visitors here Saturday.

I am the 1920 Christmas Seal. I carry Christmas cheer to homes all over this broad land, bringing hope, health and happiness. I am the spirit of Christmas bearing aloft a little child who shall have a fair chance to grow up strong. Who would not be eager to rally to such a standard? The ranks are not very full, and the need is great. Hasten, men and women, boys and girls! There is work to do to free our country from disease and carry out the true meaning of Christmas.

OVER $16,000 PAID BY CARS

County Assessor Prichard today announced the total 1920 collections for automobile tax in the county as $16,269.10, about a half more than the 1919 total. In the county, 928 automobiles and trucks were taxed.
