MORE VEHICLES TAKEN OFF STREETS

Sandpoint police continued to crackdown on those whose parked vehicles impede snow removal from city streets. About 20 vehicles have been removed from streets and impounded in the past week, eight on Thursday morning alone. In each case, the vehicle owner cannot reclaim it until a $10 towing fee plus fine has been paid under the provisions of Ordinance 370 which prohibits parking on city streets during snow-removal periods.

DANCING ORDINANCE HAS FIRST READING

The city council gave the first readings to orders regulating dancing and roller skating, results of the recent welfare and moral cleanup inaugurated by the Civic club and taken up by others. The order regulating dance hall management demands a license and an annual fee of $50 or quarterly fees of $15. Under its rules, “shimmying” and suggestive dancing is absolutely taboo, while “moonlight” dancing and the dimming of dance hall lights is also put under the ban. No minors under 18 years of age can be admitted to dances unless parents or guardians accompany them. The act further says “no room or place, with or without curtains or doors, can be occupied by both men and women except the main floor of such buildings of halls.” The roller skating law requires a $25 per year license fee. Its provisions embody much the same rules regarding positions, form, “moonlights” and “cluttering” places as the dance ordinance but the city dads eliminated the 18-year-old age limit, recognizing roller skating as a largely juvenile pastime. Penalties are carried in both ordinances, with fines up to $100, jail time up to 30 days, and the revocation of licenses.
