Lavon William Long, 85

Lavon William Long, 85, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, January 24, 2020, in Sagle, Idaho. He passed away from Parkinson’s, at home surrounded by family and friends.

LaVon was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, on December 20, 1934 to Tessie and Roy Long, who lived and worked in the Sagle area.

LaVon married his lifelong sweetheart, Patsy Marie Jones, on June 10, 1956, enjoying 63 years of a wonderful marriage centered on the love of Jesus Christ. Their marriage was blessed with three children, LaWana (Doug Roberts), Roy (Annie), and Rick (Valorie), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

LaVon worked many years as a teamster, driving log trucks and heavy construction haul equipment, working on roads, bridges, and dam projects throughout the area. He started his own business at 40 years of age, “Long Quality Steel Buildings,” constructing many of the “arch type” steel buildings that are highly visible throughout the area.

LaVon walked, talked, and sang about his Christ-centered life, leading Bible studies, sharing God’s Word, and thereby affecting the lives of many throughout the community. He also had a passion for singing country gospel music with his daughter, LaWana and various friends and family for many years in His group, “Christ Incorporated.” He had a special voice and talent, which he loved to share. He even wrote his own songs, expressing his love of God’s creation, his love for Patsy, and his love for Jesus.

The family wishes to express their many thanks to all who brought prayers, food, phone, calls, visits, and music. We would like to extend a special thanks to his nurse, Jeane Davis, for her support and loving care of LaVon during his last days.

LaVon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, brother in Christ, singer/song writer from Northern Idaho will be missed. He is now “safely in the arms of Jesus.”

A celebration of LaVon’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at the North Summit Church. LaVon will be buried in the Westmond Cemetery.
