Idaho Hill surprised with ‘Volunteers Count’ grant

OLDTOWN — Idaho Hill Elementary was surprised recently when Spokane Teacher Credit Union stopped by to present a $1,000 grant as part of its Volunteers Count program.

As an organization founded by teachers and owned by its members, STCU officials said the program was created to allow employees to follow their passions through service and volunteering. When an individual reaches, 12, 20, 40 or 80 hours of service, they are given a grant on behalf of STCU for an organization of their choice. In addition, STCU employees can fill out an application for a larger, year-end grant for an organization.

This past fall, STCU made a $1,000 donation to Idhao Hill Elementary on behalf of Nicole Gunning-Butler, who volunteered at the school.

“We appreciate Nicole’s passion to serve and are pleased to make a year-end grant from our Volunteers Count program on her behalf,” STCU official said in a letter to the school.

Founded by educators in 1934, STCU has more than 200,000 members, $3.1 billion in assets and 23 branch locations, including five in North Idaho.
