Priest River drops fourth straight game Tuesday
Priest River boys basketball has now lost four straight after losing at Bonners Ferry 65-56 on Tuesday night.
The Spartans fell behind 22-9 after one quarter but battled back to pull within 5 points after three quarters.
Priest River couldn’t complete the comeback though and fell to 1-4 in Intermountain League play.
“It was a good game,” head coach Kevin Wylie wrote in a text. “We brought it within one but just ran out of time.”
Sophomore Trentyn Kreager had 20 points and senior Caden Brennan added 16.
Prior to last night’s game, the Spartans played at Wallace on Friday night.
In that matchup, Brennan and Kreager each scored 13 points but it wasn’t enough as a team that has been hampered by injuries and sickness all season continued to be, falling 61-38 to the Miners.
Wallace jumped on Priest River early and outscored them 22-7 in the second quarter to take a 34-14 halftime lead.
The Spartans were able to stay with the Miners in the second half, but it was too late as Wallace handed Priest River its 11th loss of the season.
Seniors Jantzen Lucas and Cameron Bell added 5 and 4 points respectively.
Priest River kicked off its week of games with a thrilling contest at Timberlake on Thursday.
Kreager and Brennan once again did everything they could to carry a shorthanded Spartans team, who was without senior Jayden Lucas due to an injury.
Early on, Priest River was able to take a 10-6 first quarter lead but the Tigers battled back and took a 22-21 advantage into halftime.
The teams went back and forth in the second half and the score remained close throughout but in the end the Tigers Jacob James proved to be the difference as he scored 17 of his 28 points in the final 16 minutes of action to lead Timberlake to a 47-44 win.
Kreager scored a team-high 18 points and Brennan added 14.
“I thought my guys did a great job working together and they fought really hard,” Wylie wrote in an email.
The Spartans (6-12, 1-4 IML) return home 7 p.m. next Tuesday to face Kellogg for senior night and their final regular season game.
