Winter Carnival Cornhole Classic set for Saturday

| February 14, 2020 12:00 AM

SANDPOINT — MickDuff’s fifth annual Winter Carnival Cornhole Classic is this Saturday at the Bonner County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena.

It all starts at 10 a.m. with Bring Your Own Partner (BYOP) doubles and three skills levels for participants to enter, plus a new juniors division. Following BYOP doubles, there will also be singles at 2 p.m.

“These tournaments are meant for everyone and you’ll be able to play against players of your same skill level,” Mack Deibel, co-founder of Sandpoint Idaho Cornhole and American Cornhole League regional director, said in a press release. “We are very excited to announce that juniors 12-18 years of age officially have their own division if we get enough teams and if not, they will compete in the social division.”

Both singles and doubles competitions have three skill divisions: social, competitive and advanced. The divisions encompass casual or new players, all the way up to serious competing players and ACL pros. Registration prices are $15 social, $20 competitive and $25 advanced per player for each singles and doubles competition.

The ACL Swap is $15 per player for everyone. The divisions payout a percent of their cash registrations and there is added money and prizes thanks to their sponsors. $5 discount for ACL members. ACL membership is available on-site Saturday.

“The Winter Carnival Classic is a great time to shake these mid-winter blues, enjoy yourself a little bit and toss some bags,” James Mize, SIC co-founder and ACL pro player, said in a release. “This is everyone’s chance for an introduction to the game or to see how a little friendly competition feels.”

There is also a Friday Night Fun Crew Cup social event tonight at MickDuff’s Beer Hall open to adults 21 years of age or older. Crew Cup is a random four person team competition. Register as a single and meet your teammates when you get there.

Join the Spring Cornhole League

Starting this coming Tuesday, SIC’s Spring Cornhole League will kickoff at MickDuff’s Beer Hall. League nights are every Tuesday at 6 p.m. from Feb. 18 until April 21. You do not need a partner and you do not need to sign up for the entire league to participate any week. Each week, you will play with random partners, sometimes every game, and there will be a minimum of five games played.

“We’re handling league a little differently this spring and you don’t need a partner to play,” Deibel said in the release. “You can drop-in to play one night or participate in the entire thing. You’ll get lots of games and we’ll track your progress.”

The cost to play each week is $5 and the cost to participate in the entire league is an additional $25. There will be an upper division and a lower division and the format will vary each week between Switcholio and blind draw doubles.

“League is a great time to get to know more players in the community and grow your skills,” Mize said in the release. “Whether it’s your first time playing or you want to hone your skills, our spring league is a great chance to join the fun.”

You can register for league when you show up Tuesday.
