Winter Carnival leads the way for entertainment

SANDPOINT – Winter Carnival leads the way again this week, with events all over town. There’s a ton of fun to be had, from great music, a chance to sample some great brews (as long as you’re 21 and older), and the perennial crowd favorite Eichardt’s Pub K9 Keg Pull, this year being held on Cedar St. between Second and Third avenues. So, don’t hide from winter, revel in it.

And that’s just the start as there’s plenty more happening, so read on, intrepid reveler.

THURSDAY, FEB. 20

Girls Pint Out

Venue: Idaho Pour Authority, 203 Cedar St.

Benny Baker

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

He rocks, he rolls and we are going to get down with his bad artist self and he’s here at the Beer Hall for the Thursday Night Solo Series. Benny can be seen in many of you favorite bands: Miah Kohal, Beat Diggers, Other White Meat and is a true treat to take in on his own.

‘Olympic Dreams’

Set against the splendor of the Winter Olympic Games, an intimate and unexpected love story develops between two lonely hearts, each at their own crossroads in life. Penelope (Alexi Pappas) is a first time Olympian and introverted cross-country skier, who, after finishing her event early on in the games, finds herself spending time in Athletes Village with the gregarious and outgoing volunteer dentist, Ezra (Nick Kroll).

Come enjoy a light lunch, live dessert auction, silent auction and fabulous fashions modeled by local 2020 Distinguished Young Women participants. Distinguished Young Women is the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school girls.

Weird & Wonderful Winter Carnival Beerfest and Pub Crawl

Let’s be weird, let’s be wonderful as Winter Carnival returns with its annual Weird & Wonderful Beerfest & Bar Crawl featuring Sandpoint’s finest imbibing establishments. The beers will fit the theme of what’s weird and wonderful, and hopefully your attire/costumes will, too. Each location will have two beers on-tap featured on the weird or wonderful tasting menu.

‘Agave: The Spirit of a Nation’

An amazing documentary that celebrates the wonderful world of tequila and Sandpoint’s Winter Carnival. “Agave” explores the phenomenon of the fastest trending alcohol spirit in the world, tequila and mezcal. February Fun Fling

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

This fun event starts with a one-hour beginning tango lesson taught by a local professional instructor from 7-8 p.m., followed by general dancing, refreshments, door prizes, mixers, and more. All welcome.

Get the Girls Out

Venue: Schweitzer Mountain Resort, 10000 Schweitzer Mountain Road

Once again they’ll be donning leis, shaking grass skirt tutus, and bringing the spirit of the luau to the mountain. There will be activities for all ages and abilities including crowning a “Queen of the Greens,” hunting for the elusive Golden Girafficorn, runs down the NASTAR course, an over-the-top raffle, and so much more.

Winter Carnival K-9 Keg

Venue: Cedar Street, between Second and Third avenues, Sandpoint

Time: Pre-registration starting at 10:15 a.m., races going from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

One of Sandpoint’s most popular events, Eichardt’s annual K-9 Keg Pull is being held at Cedar Street between Second and Third avenues. with dogs of all sizes racing down a snow-packed course pulling anywhere from full-size kegs to beer cans for a cheering crowd. A great, local, family friendly event.

Admission: Free and open to the public. Keg Pull $10 entry fee donation goes to the Panhandle Animal Shelter.

Piano Sunday with Dwayne Parsons

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St.

Time: 3-5 p.m.

Jazz, freestyle and favorites fill the tasting room as Dwayne shares his talent on the winery’s grand piano.
