Jan. 2, 1970 — SANTA WANTS SLEIGH

Santa wants a cutter! Santa Claus, also known as Floyd Perks, told fellow Kiwanians he would like an authentic cutter sleigh for next Christmas, saying a sleigh is a lot better than a fire engine. This was Perks’ 20th year as the Sandpoint area Santa Claus, and he visited over 2,000 children.

RUDOLPH GREETS MOTORISTS

Christmas shoppers who parked in Sandpoint’s business area Christmas eve found a bright yellow hand-lettered holiday message on their windshields: “Rudolph says: Drive safely–Have a very Merry Christmas,” along with a cherry-nosed reindeer and signed “Sandpoint, Idaho Police.”

SCHWEITZER HAS RECORD WEEKEND

Skiers and their cars were as thick as the snowflakes last weekend at Schweitzer, which had its largest weekend ever, with an estimated 6,000 skiers. Snow conditions were ideal, roads in good condition and many skiers had four-day holidays. There is more than 30 inches at the day lodge, and upwards of four feet at the summit.

SKIERS INVITED TO WORSHIP SERVICE

Pastor Orville Grorud of First Lutheran Church will hold a special worship service for skiers from 8 to 8:30 in the chapel in the new wing this Sunday and each Sunday throughout the ski season. Worshippers may wear skiing attire.

Jan. 2, 1920 — GARAGE AT BRADLEY SITE

The old Bradley building, at the corner of First avenue and Bridge streets, is coming down. The building was purchased recently by Chris Peterson, agent for the Oakland automobile, who announced that a garage will be erected on the site (108 First Ave). Construction of the new brick structure will speedily follow the razing of the old building, which began this morning.

WARM WEATHER GREETS 1920

The year 1920 was ushered in yesterday with no snow on the ground and a bright, sunny day, a “pretty day,” as they say down in Missouri. The thermometer reached 37 during the afternoon’s weather cheerfulness. A year ago the morning of December 31 was the coldest morning of last winter, with 2 below.

CHRISTMAS DINNER ON SUMMER PORCH

Mrs. Arthur Sires entertained guests at a Christmas dinner served on the summer porch of their home at Sunnyside. Mr. and Mrs. Tuck, the Hawkins family and Eli and Scott Monhart were guests, plates being laid for 16 at the happy gathering of neighbors and friends.

A seven-pound baby boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Poole, 604 Oak street, Monday.
