Jan. 7, 1970 – SON FOR JAMES MARTINS

A 7 lb. 2 oz. son, James Richard, was born Dec. 16 to Mr. and Mrs. James Martin. Martin has served with the Navy in Vietnam since April and expects to be home in March. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Dick Martin and Mr. and Mrs. Roland Buck. Great-grandparents are Mrs. Coena Buck and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Bailey.

STRALEY AUTHORS MAGAZINE ARTICLE

Bill Straley, SHS chemistry teacher and well-known ski instructor, is the author of an article in the current issue of Ski Magazine, regarded as one of the two best publications in its field.

OPEN HOUSE HONORED DAUGHTERS

Mrs. Kenneth A. Nelson held open house Friday in honor of her daughters who were home for the holidays. Miss Karen Nelson came from Seattle, where she teaches in the Highline School District, and Mrs. Douglas Eller (Nancy Nelson), her husband and their daughter, Karen, came from Corpus Christi, Tex. enroute to San Diego.

DAUGHTER HERE FROM ETHIOPIA

Spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Myrvin Bergstrom, were their daughter Linda Gossage, and grandson, Wesley, who arrived by plane Nov. 15 from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. S/Sgt. Jerry Gossage, stationed with the Military Air Advisory Group in Ethiopia, was here for Thanksgiving, but returned to duty before Christmas. Also home for the holidays was the Bergstrom’s son, Jan, a student at the U of I.

Jan. 7, 1920 – DR. PAGE-WESTWOOD VISITS

Dr. Ethel Page-Westwood of Baker, Ore., visited her brothers, Drs. J.B. and O.F. Page, several days the past week, returning home Monday. The lady is a specialist in the treatment of eyes, and she assisted Dr. O.F. Page in an operation on an eyeball for George Spears.

MOTHER AND BABE DIE

The wife of Rudolph Dykstra, a rancher near Algoma, died Sunday. A babe was born to the Dykstras on Christmas. The mother survived childbirth without trouble but was ill at the time with the flu. The babe died Saturday night and the mother Sunday night. The family resided in the house where James Hunter died of flu a year ago. This is the first flu case reported in the county since last year’s epidemic, although local physicians state that many cases of “bad colds” this year would have been last year called the flu.
