Pend d’Oreille Review

Jan. 9, 1920 – LUTHERANS ADD 36

Voting members of this city’s Lutheran church met Thursday to plan for the year. It was decided to use the English and Scandinavian languages alternately at all services, morning and evening. To simplify its name, it was voted that the body heretofore known as the Emanuel Lutheran church, should be changed to First Lutheran church of Sandpoint. Thirty-six new members were added to the congregation.

Officers were elected: John Kaffleri, deacon (3 years); O.M. Jennestad, trustee (3 years); Mrs. A. Hakanson, organist; Andy Fiskland, treasurer; J. E. Welo, secretary; auditors, Thorwald Thomason and Thomas Solberg; janitor, Andrew Roe.

FAVOR ALBANI FALLS FOR DAM

The Washington state irrigation convention in Spokane is grappling with converting Pend d’Oreille river to the irrigation of the Columbia basin. According to word received, the plan is satisfactory to the Sandpoint delegation.

Engineers state that the dam would be 2060 ft. above sea level; it would raise the lake at Sandpoint to a height of nine ft. above low water mark, and maintain a water depth of four ft. in Sand creek at low water; and it would maintain practically the same lake level the year around.
