Ol’ Man Winter make be making an appearance with temps expected to dip into the chilly so, but on the entertainment front? It’s a whole different scene as great music, films and good times abound. Grab the phone, find the calendar and makes plans to get out and enjoy the fun.

‘Honeyland’

In ‘Honeyland’, one of 15 feature documentaries still in contention for the Academy Awards, the indelible main character is Hatidze Muratova, a woman from a remote section of North Macedonia. There she lives a humble existence cultivating honey from wild bees.

Avalanche Awareness Seminar

Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation presents this free snowmobile-based avalanche awareness program designed to familiarize the winter backcountry enthusiast with hazard recognition and techniques for safe travel in avalanche terrain.

Ron Kieper Jazz Quartet

Ron Kieper Jazz is led by saxophonist Ron Kieper along with an array of the area’s finest musicians. Ron performs extensively throughout the region both as a leader and as a sideman in groups ranging from duos to quartets to big band, and currently sits in the lead alto chair of the Bob Curnow Big Band.

POAC presents Northern Stars Rising Auditions

Venue: The Heartwood Center, 615 Oak St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Open to musicians and vocalists hoping to further their musical careers. Performers will audition for one of the following categories: Polaris (ages 14-18(; Sirius (ages 18-25), Aurora (ages 26-plus) and best original song.

Two performers or groups will be chosen in each category to perform on Friday, February 21st at the Heartwood Center.

Yonder Mountain String Band

For the past 20 years, Yonder Mountain String Band has redefined bluegrass music, expanding the traditional acoustic genre beyond its previously established boundaries by steadily pushing the envelope into the realms of rock ’n’ roll and improvisation.
