Margaret Berniece (Bossick) Gilmore, 93

Margaret Berniece (Bossick) Gilmore, 93, passed away at home on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

A rosary vigil will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2020, with Father Dennis Day officiating. Berniece will later be laid to rest with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.

Berniece was born on July 30, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pa. The eighth of 14 children, she grew up and attended schools in Hopedale, Ohio, where she graduated valedictorian. She received her teaching certificate from Ohio State University.

She taught at a business school in Hawaii where she met her husband, LCDR Kenneth Gilmore, on the beach at Waikiki. They were married at St. Augustine’s By The Sea in Honolulu in 1951. Ken’s military career took them to New Jersey and California before retiring in Sand-point in 1970.

Dur-ing her years in Sand-point, Berniece was a substitute teacher, tutor at the library, and a school volunteer. Learning was of great importance to Berniece throughout her 93 years. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for 49 years where she was involved with the Altar Society and Bible study. She also enjoyed gardening and travelling the world. Berniece and Ken spent many summer days camping around the northwest. She took great pleasure arranging and planning Gilmore family reunions and “Sisters” get togethers back east.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Gilmore (Yvonne Kiebert) of Sandpoint, and Geoffrey (Suzanne) Gilmore of West Linn, Ore.; two daughters, Terry (Ken) Pierce of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Dawn (Lonnie) Papineau of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Katlyn, Meghan, Braden, Jenna, Zachary, Shane, Alexander, Brett, and Nicholas; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Jerry Jackson of Hopedale, Ohio, Bertie Rensi of Woodfield, Ohio, and Barb Bossick of Cadiz, Ohio.

Berniece was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ken Gilmore, daughter Karen, grandson Grant, three brothers and seven sisters.
