Jan. 14, 1970 — VETERAN SHOEMAKER

A.R. Rosholt, Rosholt’s Saddlery, comes from a long line of shoemakers and repairmen dating back to Norway. His father, a journeyman shoemaker, came west in 1900, taking a job with Humbird Lumber Co. and homesteading on Gold Creek. In 1923 the elder Rosholt opened a shoe business in Sandpoint, which has been located on Second Ave. since 1925. A.R. Rosholt bought out his father in 1945, and his shoe shop alone has survived out of five in business here then.

MOUNTAIN TIME FAVORED

In a recent poll, Idahoans favored placing all of Idaho on Mountain Standard Time and forgetting Daylight Saving Time. The statewide totals are nearly the same as those the News-Bulletin tallied from Bonner and Boundary County residents.

FARMIN PARENTS WANT CONSTRUCTION

Over 30 Sandpoint parents attended Tuesday’s special school board meeting, stressing the need for early replacement of Old Farmin school, which was ordered disposed of in 1968, but is still used.

Jack Ross reported on deficiencies he found in the environmental health inspection. The building was lacking in student floor area, had poor wiring, ventilation and drinking facilities, substandard lighting, falling plaster and cooking and restroom facilities only in the basement. The faults were basically the same as those in a 1959 inspection.

Jan. 14, 1920 — NEWS FROM KOOTENAI

Although the main road between Kootenai and Sandpoint is very rough, a number of folks have made the trip with their cars during the past week.

Exceptionally good ice has enabled a number of Kootenai folks to skate to Sandpoint.

Miss Mildred Pearson returned to Sandpoint, where she attends the high school, after spending the holidays with her parents in Kootenai.
