Maurice Carver
Maurice Carver passed away on Dec. 31, 2019, after a hard-fought stubborn battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Maurice was best described as a “character” by his more polite acquaintances; however, his friends and family would describe him as a troublemaker, an accomplice, a joker, a SOB, or just a loveable A-hole. He was fiercely loyal to his own opinions and would happily share them with you whether you asked for them or not; but you also could trust that he was true to his word. He didn’t like most people, but the ones he did were true friends and he really appreciated them.
Maur-ice was always down to have a good time, regardless of the appropriateness of the situation; whether it was teaching his granddaughters to gamble with his spare change or trying to get his daughter’s wedding party to take multiple shots of whiskey or playing darts and horseshoes with anyone who was willing. He was generous, had a good sense of humor, and was really an old softy at heart. He loved rock ’n roll and the blues and loved playing his music loud while partying with his friends. He was also a life-long Oakland Raiders fan and was known for his optimistic “it’s a re-building year” outlook toward the team.
Based on his stories and starting from a young age, he appears to have never found a rule he didn’t enjoy breaking. He respectably lived his life on his own terms even if it meant taking the harder(est) path. He loved his life-long partner in crime, Pam, and I hope their souls find each other to lovingly continue arguing into the ether.
He is survived by his son, Justin; daughter-in-law, Kim; grandson, Elliot; his daughter, Misha; son-in-law, Brian; granddaughters, Gillian and Maddy; and most importantly, his beloved black lab, Sadie.
In honor of my dad, sip some Wild Turkey, open doors for others, standup for the little guy, give a middle finger to the establishment, and vote 45 out of office. He’d really appreciate it.
