PAINTER HOTEL DESTROYED BY FIRE

Kootenai’s Painter hotel was totally destroyed between 5 and 6 o’clock this morning. The fire started shortly after 4 a.m. on the second floor and gained tremendous headway before it was discovered. The Painter hotel was a three story 50-room frame structure built in 1908 by Joseph Painter. Two years ago, it passed to the ownership of the Humbird Lumber company. The hotel was a landmark of the days of the Kootenai boom.
