KOOTENAI HARVEST IS ALL-TIME LOW

The smallest harvest of kokanee in Lake Pend Oreille was recorded by the State Fish and Game Department in 1969 than in any year since accurate record keeping began in the early 50s. Last year’s harvest was 494,337, slightly over 30% of the 1953-1968 yearly average of 981,437.

KRAMER ADDED TO IDAHO HALL OF FAME

Recently retired Sandpoint native and Green Bay Packer Jerry Kramer was named one of five charter members of Idaho’s Sports Hall of Fame, to be established at Coeur d’Alene’s Desert Hotel Jan. 22 at the annual Idaho Sports Banquet.

Also named were Walter Johnson, deemed by many the all-time greatest baseball pitcher; Billy Williams, late-1940s football star, now a superior court judge; Sib Kleffner, 1920s football star; and Rich Fox, 1925 All-American basketball player.

Kramer earned All-Pacific Coast Conference acclaim as a Vandal guard in the mid-1950s and in his 10-year career with the Packers was rated by many as the finest offensive guard of all-time.

Pend d’Oreille Review

Jan. 21, 1920 — CITY BREVITIES

Five Sandpoint families have reported cases of smallpox to the county health officer. Two cases were reported from Kootenai and one each from Glengary and Hope this week. State law makes it the duty of the head of household to report cases of smallpox upon penalty of a jail sentence.

The Sandpoint Ice & Fuel co. completed its ice harvest from Lake Pend d’Oreille, gathering 1000 tons for the company’s ice house and 300 tons for the Royal Confectionary, Majestic Bottling works and private parties. In the absence of snow, the haul was made by motortrucks, which were found as satisfactory as sleighs.

Dr. E.T. Sanderson is installing a new Weyer x-ray machine, one of the largest in the northwest. He expects to be able to visualize the movable organs of the body, take x-ray photos and do deep x-ray work, such as studying cancers, etc.
