Jan. 23, 1970 — RON MAY IS MAN OF YEAR
Sandpoint Kiwanis Club Monday named Ronald E. May, Sandpoint, as its Man of the Year. The judges selected May because of his long hours of work for the Boy Scouts of America, Parent Teacher Assn., his devotion to the Sandpoint Jaycees and the Sandpoint Lions. •••
In addition, the club presented a special “Man of the Year” plaque posthumously to Dr. Wilbur C. Hayden. His widow received the honor. The writer who nominated the late Dr. Hayden called him the “Man of the Decade.”

ILLNESS, SNOW CLOSE SCHOOLS
A combination of snow-choked roads, absenteeism and illness that struck teachers, students, bus drivers, custodians and other school personnel, caused Superintendent Jack Jones to declare all schools closed Tuesday morning until conditions improve.

LPN PRESENTS RECORDS TO SCHOOL
At a recent LPN meeting at Bonner General Hospital, nine record albums of children’s music were presented by the Licensed Practical Nurses Assn. to the Sandpoint Adjustment School. Mrs. Harriet Carter, teacher at the school, accepted the records from LPN President Kay Berry.
Mrs. Katherine Girtman is vice president of the LPN and Linda Patton is secretary.

Jan. 23, 1920 — PRETTIEST STILL YET
Another still was added to the sheriff’s collection as a result of Wednesday’s raid by Deputies William Pickett and Matt Benson upon a loghouse a mile east of Matchwood. Incidentally, the sheriff’s still paraphernalia occupies much of the back room off the detention ward on the first floor of the jail building, besides the overflow out in the roothouse of the jail yard. Wednesday’s still was the real thing and when interrupted in full blast, liquor was pouring into a pan from its copper coil. It is the cleanest, prettiest outfit the sheriff’s force has seized in the history of illicit liquor-making.

DEPORTED
Frank Gamby, Nick Welsh, Harry Sedars and Len Ulrich departed Wednesday morning for Himes’ cottage, on a fishing expedition. They had visited Jack Gardner last Friday and when it developed that Jack had the small pox, Health Officer Wendle proposed the detention hospital with the result that the quartet arranged for a few days’ sojourn at the Himes cottage.
