City seeks input on new survey

SANDPOINT — The city has launched the fifth in a series of community surveys, with responses to inform the Sandpoint Comprehensive Plan update.

This week’s survey topic is “Community Character and Design,” related to the overall appearance and feel of the city.

“A community’s character or identity is the collective impression it makes on residents or visitors,” said Aaron Qualls, director of Planning and Community Development. “People often choose to live or visit places based on their perceptions of community character, which can be shaped by building forms, natural features, public spaces and of course, people.”

City officials said they would like to hear from community members about their perceptions of Sandpoint’s character: What is unique about Sandpoint? What should be done to enhance or protect the character of Sandpoint?

The Comprehensive Plan is a 20-year vision that is by and for the community. All community members are invited to help imagine and shape this vision. The city initiated the effort last year to update the plan, which has not been overhauled since 2009. For more information about the plan, please visit sandpointidaho.gov/imagine.

Each survey in the series is launched on a Sunday and closes the following Saturday at 11:59 p.m. Results from each of the prior surveys are also available publicly on a weekly basis. The surveys are available online through the city’s website at sandpointidaho.gov/engage. They are also available on the city’s Facebook page and through the Engage Sandpoint mobile app, which can be downloaded to any mobile device through Google Play or the Apple app store.

Community members may also come into City Hall for staff assistance in completing a survey.

Remaining surveys include growth and land use (Jan. 26) and natural resources (Feb. 2).
