Minnie May Simmet, 83

| January 28, 2020 1:00 AM

Our beloved “Aunt Minnie” peacefully passed away from this world to her heavenly home on Jan. 18, 2020.

Minnie was born in Nenzel, Nebraska, on May 26, 1936, to Oscar and Luvina Leggett. She joined a sister, Dorothy; and brother, Billy.

In 1939, she moved from Nebraska with her parents and sister to homestead in North Idaho, settling at Trestle Creek, where she resided until her recent stay at Life Care Center in Sandpoint.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Oscar and Luvina; brother Billy, sister Dorothy, and loving husband, Raymond Simmet; nephew Chris Yoho; and nieces Mary Ann Larson and Marie Kittilstved.

Minnie and her sister Dorothy walked the 2 miles down Trestle Creek Rd to catch the bus to attend Hope Elementary School.

She married Raymond in 1955 and resided at Trestle Creek, running a logging business for many years. After her father’s passing, she cared for her mother Luvina at the home until her mother’s passing in 1984.

Minnie was very active, loved the outdoors, gardening and getting in the winter wood. She welcomed her many friends into her home for a visit and always had the coffee pot on. She loved all animals and was passionate about enjoying the beauty of the outdoors and all that nature had to offer.

Minnie is survived by her loving nieces, Dollie (Cole) Howell, Vickie (Randy) Cooper, Bonnie (Garry) Bay, Barbara Jones and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Minnie will be greatly missed but her love and presence are fondly remembered by those lucky enough to have known her.

Her celebration of life will be held at Coffelt Funeral Chapel in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Saturday, February 1 at 1 p.m. with interment at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Sandpoint.

Family and friends are invited to sign Minnie’s online guest book at coffeltfuneral.com.

Arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service.
