Lakers B team celebrates July 4th with walk-off win
SANDPOINT — The North Idaho Lakers B team (16U) split a doubleheader with Moscow on the Fourth of July at Pine Street Field.
The Lakers opened the series on Saturday with a dramatic 11-10 walk-off victory.
The game was tied at 10-10 in the bottom of the 10th inning when Kody MacDonald doubled to score one run and give the Lakers their first league win.
MacDonald collected five hits in six at bats and had three RBI’s to lead the Lakers (3-9, 1-2). Moscow captured a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning, but North Idaho battled back despite surrendering four runs in the sixth inning.
The Lakers knotted the game up at 10 in the bottom of the eighth inning, when an error by Moscow scored one run.
Jack Ringer started on the mound for North Idaho. He lasted four innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out four. He also had 16 first pitch strikes. Jack Zimmerman struck out four batters in three innings of work.
The Lakers collected 14 hits in the game. MacDonald, Zimmerman, Koby Barlow and Finn-Erik Mellander each had multiple hits for North Idaho.
Moscow tallied 12 hits in the game and stole 13 bases.
In the series finale, the Lakers fell 10-5 to Moscow.
Moscow took control in the sixth inning by scoring seven runs.
Alex Leverich pitched a stellar five innings for the Lakers, only giving up three runs and striking out three. Koby Barlow led the Lakers with three hits, Jack Zimmerman notched two hits, and Finn Mellander, Chase San Roman and Paden Lish all recorded a hit.
Barlow led all pitchers with four strikeouts.
The Lakers host Bonners Ferry 6 p.m. tonight at Pine Street Field.
