Lakers B team sweeps series with Silver Valley
SANDPOINT — The North Idaho Lakers class B (16U) team swept a non-league doubleheader with Silver Valley class A on Wednesday at Pine Street Field.
In the first game, the Lakers took a 4-1 lead after three innings of play but Silver Valley stormed back in the top of the fourth with four runs. North Idaho scored a pair in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead and in the fifth inning they broke the game wide open.
Three walks, three singles and a pair of groundouts allowed the Lakers to tally nine runs in the inning to defeat Silver Valley by the 10-run rule, 15-5.
Jack Ringer notched two RBI’s and Kody MacDonald, Koby Barlow, Alex Leverich and Jacob Hansen all drove in a run.
Ringer started on the mound for the Lakers. He pitched three and two-thirds innings and allowed four runs and five hits. He also recorded four strikeouts.
Lish came on in relief and surrendered two hits and no runs.
The series finale was a nail-bitter for the Lakers. North Idaho came out of the gates firing in the first inning scoring four runs. Silver Valley crawled back tallying three runs across the next three innings, but the Lakers didn’t waver and built a comfortable 7-3 advantage heading into the final inning.
North Idaho fended off a late charge by Silver Valley to claim their fifth victory of the season.
MacDonald started at pitcher for the Lakers and lasted two innings. He gave up three hits and two runs while fanning five. Leverich, Jack Zimmerman and Cole San Roman all came on in relief. The Lakers pitchers recorded 13 strikeouts.
Barlow and San Roman each notched two hits and six other North Idaho batters tallied a hit in the game. Lish drove in a pair of runs.
The Lakers (5-9) play a doubleheader against Medical Lake at noon Saturday at Pine Street Field.
19U team falls to tough Wilder squad
The North Idaho Lakers class A (19U) Legion baseball team fell behind early and couldn’t make up the deficit in a 7-4 loss to Wilder Baseball Club on Tuesday night at Pine Street Field.
The loss dropped the Lakers to 2-10 on the season.
Avery Bocksch started on the mound for North Idaho. He went four innings, allowing four hits and three runs, all in the first inning, and striking out four batters.
The Lakers battled back to trail 3-2 after two innings but both teams went scoreless for the next three innings. Then in the sixth inning, Wilder scored a pair of runs to take a 5-2 advantage.
Wilder added two more runs in the top of the seventh to take a commanding 7-2 lead. The Lakers attempted to mount a comeback in the bottom of the inning but it was too little, too late.
Coby Rogers led North Idaho with two hits and two RBI’s. Bocksch went 1-3 at the plate and scored two runs and Connor Bird also drove in a run.
Everett Hannah pitched three innings, allowing four runs and three hits and striking out a pair.
Each team notched seven hits and the Lakers committed six errors in the game.
