July 14, 1970 – NORDEEN PROMOTED

Word has been received from the commanding officer of the USS Bushnell, whose home port is Key West, Fla., that Patrick T. Nordeen has been awarded the grade of Opticalman 2nd Class. Nordeen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Nordeen of Sandpoint, is one of few specialist in the U.S. Navy qualified to repair submarine periscopes.

CAMP STIDWELL FLAG POLE ERECTED

Sandpoint Kiwanis raised a new flagpole at Camp Stidwell on Mirror lake Wednesday, with the aid of Northern Lights, Inc. equipment operated by Bob Pierce. Helping with shovels and tamper were Walt Diesem, Wes Pries, Clarence Reed and son, Bob Klatt, Lou Rahskopf and Kent McCandless.

HOME FROM NEBRASKA

Mrs. Edgar Rueb, Sandpoint, and nine-year old Denise Hamann, her granddaughter, of Kootenai, returned from a three weeks’ trip which took them to Fremont, Neb., and Fort Dodge, Ia., where they visited relatives of both Mr. and Mrs. Rueb. They also spent one day and night in Salt Lake City.

PROMOTED IN GERMANY

Richard J. Ramsay, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ramsay Sr., Laclede, was promoted to Army spec. 5 in Germany. He serves with Service Battery, 6th Bn, 3rd Armored Div., 40th Artillery.

July 14, 1920 – BABY CLINICS

Miss Hedwig Djupe, city and school district health nurse, announced that baby clinics for all children below school age will be held Saturdays from 9:30 to 12. These clinics at the overflow building on the Central school grounds will be attended by one of the city’s physicians and by Miss Esbensen, county health nurse, as well as Miss Djupe, and will be open to country mothers as well as those from town. Mothers are asked to bring sheets to wrap the little ones in.

The Post Office news stand received a corn popper and peanut roaster and immediately pressed it into service.
