Robert William Dixon, 77

Robert William Dixon, 77, Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away on February 13, 2007, at the VA hospital in Spokane, Washington.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., July 25, 2020 at Seneacquoteen Cemetery, with the Rev. Barry Johnson of New Song Bible Church officiating. Lunch will be provided at the home of Valerie Hester, 289 Old Highway 95, Sagle, following the graveside service. Family and friends are welcome.

Robert was born September 1, 1929, in Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky to Peter Tipton Dixon and Sybilla M Cecilia (Reuter) Dixon.

Bob served in the Air Force during World War II from 1948 to 1955. He was stationed at Elmen-dorf Air Base in Alaska, however on his way to Alaska he had a layover at Farragut Naval Training Station and vowed someday he would come back to Idaho. He was a staff sergeant stationed at Ellington Air Base in Houston, Texas, when he married Helen Hope Briery on June 2, 1952, in Harris, Texas.

In 1964 with a wife, six children, two dogs and a station wagon he made it back to Idaho in 1964.

Bob worked for the U.S. Forest Service, the Atlantic Richfield station and was involved in the development of the Airport expansion in Sandpoint, Idaho. He was a patriot, politically active, a lifetime member of the NRA and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He loved flying, hosting fly-ins, sailing, motorcycling, photography, jazz, classical music and hunting. He always wanted to sail to Samoa but couldn’t quite talk his bride into the ocean voyage.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Sybilla and father, Peter Tipton Dixon; two brothers and three sisters.

Bob is survived by W. Keith Dixon and Patti Dixon of Sandpoint, Idaho; Joel C. Dixon of Athol, Idaho; Valerie Hester of Sagle, Idaho; Deianira S. Kincaid and Ed Kincaid of Kennewick, Washington; Victoria A. Dixon of Boise, Idaho; and J. Kevin Dixon and Kymberly Dixon of Kootenai, Idaho; and by over 50 grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren

He will be buried next to his wife of 54 years, Helen Hope; at the graveside service at Seneacquoteen.
